Professional History
Since 1989, Gerard has completed the sale, lease or development of real estate transactions in excess of
$500 million and currently owns agriculture, mining, industrial, retail, and office real estate, along with
river and rail terminals.
Gerard was an industrial real estate broker and a partner for Hiffman Shaffer Associates, Inc. in 1991-
1999 after moving from Nebraska. There he earned top broker award and partner interest in 1996. In
1999, Gerard and 9 partners bought the brokerage operation from Hiffman Shaffer Anderson and
branded the company NAI Hiffman growing it to the largest privately owned commercial real company
in the Chicagoland market. He obtained the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM)
designation from the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute in November of 1996 and the Active
Industrial designation from the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) in November of 1996. In
2002, Mr. Keating was elected President of the Association of Industrial Real Estate Brokers (AIRE),
which is the largest commercial real estate brokerage association in the Chicagoland market. Gerard
sold his interest in NAI Hiffman in 2004 and founded Keating Resources returning to his family legacy.
Mr. Keating graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May of 1987, earning his Bachelor of
Science degree in Business Administration with an Agribusiness major. He was elected student body
president and regent in March of 1985 and elected to the University of Nebraska Foundation Board of
Trustees in 2012.
Personal History
Gerard enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1989 with rank of Private. His Military Occupation Skill
(MOS) was 98C10 Signal Intelligence Analyst. He obtained a Top Secret Sensitive Compartmented
Information (SCI) security clearance from the U.S. Department of Defense. Gerard completed Basic
Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and MOS training at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo,
Texas. Gerard was accepted into the U.S. Army Officer Candidate School, was commissioned on July 25, 1992, and completed his Officer Basic Course (OBC) in Infantry at Ft. Benning, GA. He was honorably
discharged with rank of 1LT on March 26, 1998.
